The same mechanism is the engine behind our episodic memory, allowing us to form long-lasting, detailed memories of important life events with no need for effortful learning or repeated recall to remember.

This discovery has huge potential to revolutionize education because anyone can learn what they need to know for school in a fraction of the usual time, and it also results in a much deeper understanding of the subjects.
During two workshops — on Wednesday, 18 March (for high-school students) and Friday, 20 March (for adults) at 2PM — George Hlavax takes you on a wonderful journey to discover this secret of your mind, and you can experience for yourself how easily this way of learning works.
After a quick introduction, you learn the number π up to ten decimals (3.1415926536) in just two minutes, in a way that allows you to recall it a week, a month, or even years later, despite performing the “encoding process” only once.
In the next step, you learn the first ten years of Napoleon’s reign all at ‘one shot’, within just 15 minutes, covering the most important dates, places, and events.
It is a fun, insightful, and highly useful workshop for everyone. You’ll wish you had known about this on the first day you entered school.
The workshops take place at Erasmus University College in Rotterdam.
